The last few years have been fruitful for the Albury-based artist DARREN COLSTON. A fine vocalist and exceptional performer, Darren is a genuine entertainer of the highest calibre His songs are about the Australian way of life – easy to relate to, as he resides on the Murray River – a heritage of its own.
He released his debut album BEYOND THE PALING FENCE in 2003. It featured songs written by Darren with standouts such as “Two Farms”, “When A Baby Cries” and the title track “Beyond The Paling Fence”.
Darren impressed new audiences by his songwriting when he was a TOYOTA STARMAKER GRANDFINALIST two years running (2004/2005).
“… all the judges recognised his special song writing talents and enormous potential … I told him after his first Star Maker appearance that he could be another Paul Kelly and I stand by my words today” Deniese Morrison, Starmaker Judge
His second album COME BY CHANCE (released 2005) was named after one of Banjo Paterson’s poems. It wasn’t until Darren was travelling to Gympie he chanced upon the small western town on the road map.
The album has an array of great songs starting with the first single “The Boundary Rider”, Darren seems to be able to tell wonderful stories in his songs. Or you can be entertained with the larrikin song “Drown In Bourbon” or the poignant “Moving The Mullock”.
"Darren is a gifted song writer and storyteller with a clear and appealing vocal quality. His songs reflect life and love in Australia” Steve Perry, St Marys Sound Centre

Early 2009 saw the release of Darren’s self-titled second album DARREN COLSTON, produced by Herm Kovac – with his first single “On The Bend By The Willow” gaining a Top 30 Country Tracks chart spot (#23) and Top 100 Country Hits chart (#26) showing it’s been worth the wait for this gifted singer/songwriter.
After " Letters From The Frontline", the second single from his self-titled album, went to #36 on the Top 100 Hits chart, Darren then had his first top 5 hit with the third single," Will You stay". An exquisite duet with Victoria Baillie, this song is a beautiful vocal blend from two fine singers.
